
The Vigilance Team of the Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Protection Department has busted a fuel theft racket in Wadala and seized petrol, diesel, aviation turbine fuel (ATF), tankers and equipment collectively valued at approximately ₹1.31 crore. One person has been detained, and legal proceedings are underway.
Acting under the guidance of Rationing Distribution Controller Chandrakant Dange, the vigilance team conducted a raid in the Wadala area on June 16. During the operation, officials found that the seals of two fuel tankers had allegedly been tampered with and fuel was being siphoned into plastic containers.
The team caught one individual red-handed at the site. Preliminary investigation revealed that fuel was being extracted from the tankers using a plastic pipe, valve and a 20-litre plastic can.
During the inspection, tanker MH-04 KU-1826 was found carrying 10,000 litres of petrol and 14,000 litres of diesel, while tanker MH-04 LY-6388 contained 29,000 litres of aviation turbine fuel (ATF).
Authorities seized the fuel, both tankers and other equipment used in the alleged operation. The total value of the seized property has been estimated at ₹1.31 crore.
The vigilance team involved in the operation included Deputy Controllers of Distribution Ganesh Bellale and Madhuri Shinde, Chief Inspection Officer Nagnath Hangarge, Distribution Officer Ganesh Pawar, Assistant Distribution Officer Yogeshwar More, and Distribution Inspectors Ramraje Bhosale, Chandrakant Kamble, Vikas Nagdive, Rahul Ingle and Arun Kate.
The Food and Civil Supplies Department stated that further investigation is in progress and appropriate legal action will be taken against all those found involved in the fuel theft racket.
