A theft incident has been reported inside the standing committee hall of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), where INR 20,000 was allegedly stolen from the purse of Shiv Sena (UBT) corporator Laxmi Bhatia.
According to reports, the incident occurred during a committee meeting when the corporator briefly stepped out for lunch, leaving her purse at her seat. Upon returning, she reportedly found the purse open and the cash missing.
The incident has raised concerns over security arrangements within the civic headquarters, particularly in a high-security zone where important administrative and financial decisions are taken.
The matter was brought to the attention of the civic security department. Officials said the absence of CCTV coverage inside the hall has made it difficult to determine what happened or identify those involved.
A complaint has been filed, and an internal inquiry is underway.
