Mumbai lawyer, Pallavi Purkayastha’s killer, Sajjad Mughal, was arrested by Mumbai Police's crime branch on Tuesday, October 10. Mughal had jumped parole after he left a jail in Nasik in March last year, to visit his unwell mother but he never returned and fled.
Pallavi Purkayastha was murdered on August 9, 2012, by Mughal, who was a watchman at her building in Central Mumbai’s Wadala locality. He broke into her apartment with a spare key and tried to rape her. When she fought back, he stabbed her repeatedly and slit her throat which left the lawyer in a pool of blood.
Mughal was convicted in 2014.
Purkayastha, was 25 when she was killed and worked at actor Farhan Akhtar’s firm Excel Entertainment as a legal advisor.
