A routine commute turned tragic when a 33-year-old college professor was fatally stabbed following a brief altercation with a fellow passenger at Malad railway station on Saturday evening.
The victim, Alok Kumar Singh, a professor at Narsee Monjee College of Commerce and Economics, reportedly got into an argument with Omkar Eknath Shinde (27) while deboarding a crowded Western Railway local train. The disagreement escalated on Platform No. 1, where Shinde allegedly attacked Singh with a sharp weapon, stabbing him in the abdomen.
Singh collapsed at the spot and was rushed to hospital in a critical condition, where doctors later declared him dead.
After the attack, the accused fled the scene. Acting swiftly, the Borivali Government Railway Police (GRP) scanned CCTV footage and conducted a search operation, tracing Shinde to Kurar village in Malad. He was arrested within 24 hours of the incident.
A case of murder has been registered, and further investigation is underway.
