A father who allegedly strangled his 4-month-old daughter has been arrested. The police investigation revealed that he had a fight with his wife over the child that he did not want another daughter. 


The arrested accused is a 40-year-old Sanjay Babu Kokare who resides in Ghatkopar (East). The accused is unemployed, and his wife, Shaila Kokare, a domestic worker, is the only breadwinner of the family. The couple has two children.

When the third child was born the accused started fighting with his wife saying that they would not be able to bear the additional expenses. He suggested that they should give away the daughter, however, his wife said that she will take care of her newborn, informed the police officer. 

On Friday, February 28, after Shaila went to work, the 4-month-old baby started crying. When Sanjay could not stop her cries, enraged, he strangled her with a rope. Upon returning from work, she will realise what he did to the daughter. She immediately informed the police. The Pant Nagar police has registered a case against Sanjay under Section 103 (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023.
