Mumbai Police arrests one person involved with fake COVID-19 reports

The matter came to light when a citizens lodged a complaint at the Charkop Police Station stating that her coronavirus report was allegedly tampered.

Amidst the rising coronavirus (COVID-19) cases, Mumbai Police, on Friday, April 9, 2021, exposed a gang which cheated several citizens by making fake Covid-19 Report. 

As per reports, a women named Charu Chauhan, on April 6, lodged a complaint at the Charkop police station stating that her covid-19 report was allegedly tampering. Understanding the same and taking serious note of the concern, the Senior Inspector of the respective Police Station, Manohar Shinde, decide to take immediate action by looking into the matter.

Upon investigation,  Sub-Inspector Shinde said that a reputed lab technician, Mohammad Salim Mohammad Umar, had sent the woman for a swab test. Though he charged the woman for the test, Umar had downloaded the COVID-19 report from an online website. 

Further investigation revealed that Mohammad Saleem had prepared such fake COVID-19 reports of more than 37 citizens in the same manner, and taking note of the same, the police arrested Umar. Further investigation is underway.

Coronavirus cases in the state of Maharashtra are on a rise, and the government has taken strict measures to contain the spread of COVID-19. Currently, the state is observing a strict curfew in the night from 8am to 7pm on weekdays, and a strict lockdown from Friday 8pm to Monday 7am on weekends. Public parks, malls, cinema houses, restaurants and bars have been closed due to the increase. However, door delivery of food is permitted. Concerns have raised in major districts across the state and the respective local administrations have been asked to make a note. 

Observing the same, the COVID-19 task force has asked CM Uddhav Thackeray and other cabinet ministers to consider a strict lockdown. Cabinet Minister Vijay Wadettiwar, on Friday, April 9, 2021, mentioned that a three week lockdown would be necessary if the cases do not come under control. Meanwhile, citizens have been asked to follow the norms strictly, failing which action will be taken by the government officials, which could lead to a penalty.
