On Thursday, March 31, Mumbai Police Commissioner Sanjay Pandey, took to Twitter to elaborate on how the city police will work toward “Narcotics Free Mumbai”. He says that drugs are a major issue in Mumbai and while they have been working in the background, they will now reveal their daily work.

Pandey added that inputs, as well as information from Mumbaikars, are welcome. He agrees that it is a tall order but they will work towards it. His tweet read, “Drugs are a major concern. We have been working in the background. Now on will reveal daily and your inputs/information is welcome to work towards #narcoticsfree Mumbai. Tall order but we shall”.

The Mumbai Police’s Anti Narcotics Cell (ANC) Branch takes action against those who manufacture, transport, possesses, sale narcotics drugs, psychotropic substance. The cell commenced in 1989 and apart from conducting action against offenders it also conducts programs for deaddiction as well as student awareness programs.

Recently, the ANC of the Mumbai crime branch arrested a 33-year-old resident of Byculla and allegedly recovered three kilograms of mephedrone worth INR 4.66 crore. Amid the recent narcotics case that is being probed by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), the drug menace that has been crippling the city was brought to light.
