Mumbai Police recently commenced an initiative namely ‘Mission Reunited’ to help parents reconcile with their missing children.

This development came after a 16-year-old girl from Andheri, missing for the past nine years, was reunited with her family.

In this mission, launched by Commissioner Vivek Phansalkar, the city police traced a total of 487 children between August 15 and September 30. These cases include instances where minors ran away from home or were not cared for by family and found abandoned in some other part of the city.

A senior police official said in majority of these cases, children missing from one part of the city were found in another part.

According to a data revealed by the police department, of the total kin who were reported missing, 135 girls and 68 boys were traced.

Apart from it, the police also helped many kids whose missing complaint was not registered.

With this, 154 boys and 122 girls, who were not reported missing but found without any guardian, were also reunited with their families. Further, eight underage boys, who were found working, were also reunited with their families. Meanwhile, no child was found begging.

In the past days, the police have also rescued children as young as two-month-old and a one-year-old in two separate cases of kidnapping. Mumbai Police Commissioner Vivek Phansalkar himself reunited the rescued child with her mother.
