Ahead of the 72nd Republic Day, the Mumbai Police in order to keep a check on criminal activities in the city undertook ‘Operation All-Out’ on the intervening night of January 23-24.

Under the initiative, raids, combing exercises, nakabandis, road checks and searches were carried out in Mumbai. As a result, the city police arrested 349 offenders including 52 abscondings and ‘wanted’ criminals, while 59 accused others involved in non-bailable offences.

Moreover, 66 people were arrested under NDPS act while 33 were found with weapons during their arrest. Their weapons were seized. The combing operation carried out at 223 places and found 349 suspects allegedly involved in the mobile, chain, two and four wheeler theft cases as well as those persons who had been banished from the city but had returned on the sly.

Apart from this, 739 hotels and lodges were checked and 31 people were arrested for violating externment orders against their names, reports suggested.

However, the report further stated that nakabandis were organised at 101 locations, and 8,597 vehicles were checked, resulting in the imposition of fines on 2,478 motorists for various irregularities. A total of 12 motorists were arrested for driving drunk.

For those unaware, the Mumbai Police in December last year, during the “Operation All-Out”, which was carried out for three-hours, checked 362 criminals on record for serious crimes, arrested 22 externee criminals, registered 53 cases under the NDPS Act, checked 851 hotels, lodges and musafirkhana. In this drive, 48 absconding and wanted criminals were nabbed and 167 non-bailable warrants were executed. Furthermore, cops seized 1 illegal firearm and 11 sharp weapons, including swords and knives, and carried out 95 raids against illicit activities across the city.
