A man named Mohammed Iqbal Qayyum Siddiqui posed as a sales representative from a Mercedes dealership and stole two Mercedes cars from South Mumbai's Malabar Hill property developer named Nilesh Pavitralal Mehta. Siddiqui targeted Mehta and offered him free servicing for his Mercedes GLE 250 and C-300 vehicles. Mehta, who is 78-years-old, trusted his offer and its services.

On August 7, Siddiqui left with Mehta's Mercedes GLE 250, along with the original documents and spare keys. The next day, he came back with the same offer for his another car. Mehta gave him possession of the Mercedes C-300 too.

Siddiqui assured Mehta that he would return the cars within four working days. However, Siddiqui never returned his car. On August 17, a car dealer in Pune contacted Mehta to inquire about the selling price of the cars he had purchased. Mehta realised that he had fallen victim to a scam. He found that Siddiqui had sold both stolen cars to another car dealer in Pune. He received an advance of INR 50,000 in the process.

Mehta filed a complaint at the Malabar Hill police station. Malabar Police promptly registered a case against Siddiqui under Section 420 (cheating) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Ultimately, the police managed to locate and recover the stolen luxury vehicles. The cars are now under police custody. And, the police are now looking for Siddiqui, who is on the run now.
