The victim, Siddharth Ajay Londhe, a Class 8 student from Bhandup (West), had left his home on February 22, telling his family he was going out to play. When he did not return, his family approached the police, who initially registered a missing person’s complaint that was later converted into a kidnapping case due to his age.
The following day, the boy’s T-shirt and slippers were found near the lake. His body was subsequently recovered from the water with the help of emergency services. A preliminary post-mortem examination revealed a serious head injury, raising suspicions of foul play rather than accidental drowning.
During the investigation, police questioned some of the victim’s friends. One of the teenagers reportedly disclosed details of the incident, after which two others were also detained. According to investigators, the boys allegedly assaulted Siddharth with a wooden stick before disposing of the body in the lake.
A case of murder has been registered, and further investigation is underway. The accused, all minors aged between 14 and 15, were produced before the Juvenile Justice Board and sent to a remand home as per legal procedure.
