Residents and internet users are alarmed after a woman described a disturbing case of street harassment in Bandra on Reddit. The post, titled “Never expected Bandra to be unsafe”, has drawn wide attention.

The woman, in her early 30s and a Bandra resident, said the incident happened around 7:45 pm while she was out running errands. She claimed that a man suddenly grabbed her on a crowded, well-lit road.

She explained that she usually dresses very modestly and stressed that clothing cannot be used as an excuse for harassment. She also shared that this was not an isolated event. She said she had been catcalled and followed home several times before, but this attack was the most shocking.

Describing the event, she said, “A random guy just came over to me quickly, gave me a really tight hug, and rubbed up against me.” She added that once she screamed, the man let go, appeared startled, and apologised repeatedly.

The woman said she hit the man with her tote bag during the struggle but avoided using her hands to prevent injury. After the incident, she felt shaken and briefly questioned if she had triggered the assault but later accepted that it was not her fault. Despite her distress, she continued with her errands.

Following requests from readers, she updated her post to share the exact location. She wrote that it happened near Peace Haven villa on Perry Cross Road in Bandra. She also noted that people often ignore harassment and that the city’s image of being safe for women feels misleading.

The post triggered many responses from others who recalled similar incidents of being followed or harassed in Bandra. Some urged her to go to the police. As of now, no arrests have been made, and there is no confirmation of a formal police complaint.
