Though the Anti-Narcotics Squad (ANS) and Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) were successful in blocking smuggling from Kashmir to Mumbai, the smugglers carved out a new way for them. Recently, NCB arrested a 40-year-old smuggler with 980-grams of drugs in Panvel.

Accused Jayatirtha Rao is a Karnataka resident and used to smuggle from Karnataka to Mumbai. NCB were tipped off about Rao bringing drugs from 12218 Kranti Express to Mumbai.

Accordingly, on Saturday, NCB officials laid a trap at Panvel railway station and they waited for Rao to get down on the platform. They then inspected him where they found a packet with 980-grams of drugs.

Prior to this, ANC officials had arrested two smugglers, Heena Kababi (24) and Muzzafar Bhat (34), who used to smuggle drugs in Mumbai from Kashmir.

Who is Heena?

Heena's husband was a smuggler and after his death, she started doing the same. Likewise, she took ₹3 lakh from Muzzafar Bhat, whom she knew. She bought drugs with that money and found out about the consumers in Mumbai and planned to sell. Muzzafar had no idea about Heena's intentions.

This is how she sold drugs

Heena then asked Muzzafar to take her to Mumbai on the pretext of a vacation. He gave in to her demands and the duo came to Mumbai in the month of January. After arriving in Mumbai, Heena sold drugs in Andheri, Malad, and Kandivali.

And she confessed

After arriving at a hotel, Muzzafar saw packets of drugs in Heena's purse. They fought over it after which she confessed to Mazzafar about selling drugs. She also threatened Muzzafar not to inform the police or else they would arrest him too.

Crores worth smuggling

In the month of August and September, plants of drugs grow in the mountainous areas of Jammu & Kashmir's Anantnag, Sambhal, Udaipur, and Baramulla. These plants are then cut and smuggled during the four months of winter season.
