The Thane police have arrested Dr. Amol Patil, a Nashik-based doctor, in connection with an illegal egg donation and sale racket uncovered in Badlapur. Dr. Patil is the sixth person to be taken into custody as part of the investigation.

Dr. Patil, associated with the Malti IVF Centre in Nashik, was presented in court and remanded to five days of police custody for further interrogation. Authorities believe he played a key role in coordinating the racket and may have operated an unauthorised fertility centre in Thane as part of the scheme.

Earlier, police had arrested several women and one man in connection with the racket, which allegedly exploited economically vulnerable women by illegally extracting and selling their eggs. The investigation is ongoing, with authorities seeking to uncover the full network of individuals involved, including other medical professionals.

The case has highlighted serious violations in egg donation practices and prompted law enforcement to strengthen oversight of fertility clinics to prevent such illegal activities in the future.
