Vanrai police have arrested two Chinese nationals for stealing 5.5 carat diamond worth INR 34 lakh from an exhibition. They were arrested from Chhatrapati Shivaji Mumbai International Airport where the accused Chiyang Chang Quing and Deng Ziyabo had planned to flee to their hometown China.

They committed the crime at an exhibition center

According to Vanrai police officials, there was an international gold and diamond exhibition from 27 July to 31 July at Goregaon’s NESCO exhibition. On the last day i.e. 31 July, Ratilal and Sons company had put 34 lakhs worth diamond for a display. After a while, the workers realised that the real diamond was missing and it was replaced with a fake diamond. They immediately informed the owner who approached the Vanrai police for an investigation.

Upon checking the CCTV footage, they saw two Chinese nationals loitering near the Ratilal and Sons company stall where the diamond was put on display. After an investigation, police got to know that the accused Chiyang Chang Quing and Deng Ziyabo were waiting for their flight at Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport. Without wasting a minute, police took the help of CISF officers to stop the accused from boarding the flight.

After nabbing the accused, Vanrai police started a dialogue with the two nationals as they had to confiscate the diamond. The DCP Vinay Kumar Rathod of Zone 12 started interrogating Chiyang Chang Quing and Deng Ziyabo. As they were speaking their language, it was getting difficult for the police to decode their language. Finally, they called an interpreter who interacted with the nationals for seven hours and they committed their crime. They told police officials that they had hidden the diamond in a 5ml shampoo bottle. Apart from diamond, police confiscated two fake diamonds and one magnifying glass from the accused.
