Powai police have arrested Shiv Sena leader Gulab Pakhre from Pune for allegedly demanding a bribe of  ₹20 Cr from Mumbai's famous builder Niranjan Hiranandani. Pakhare is also said to be a member of Junnar District Council.

Pakhre misused the RTI Act

According to information received, Pakhre sought information from various governmental organisations against Hiranandani under RTI. On the basis of information received from RTI, Pankhare started demanding money from Hiranandani. At the same time, he also threatened that if Hiranandani refuses to give money then he would make all the information public.

Pakhre demanded ₹20 Cr

A few months ago, Pakhare had taken ₹10 lakh from Hiranandani. But Pakhare's greed went on growing and a few days later he demanded ₹20 Cr. Hiranandani then filed a complaint against Pakhare with Powai Police. The builder also helped police with the recording of the conversation that took place between the duo.

In this case, a senior police officer from Powai Police, Anil Pophale, formed a team and laid the trap.

According to the plan, Gulab Pakhare was called to take money in a hotel at Mulund from where the police arrested Rakesh Singh while taking ₹2 crore.

According to the police, Pakhare used to work as an agent with Hiranandani Group for many years. Last year Pakhre left his job and entered politics and on the basis of RTI, he started collecting all the information against Hiranandani. The police said that Pakhare's purpose was only to earn money from Hiranandani through RTI. The police have filed a case against Pakhare under section 384 (bribe) of IPC and arrested him as well.
