To ensure that the New Year celebrations in Mumbai are peaceful, Mumbai Police has announced that there will be more than 40,000 police personnel on roads. In addition to this, there will be 2,500 traffic police personnel on-road and there will be ‘zero tolerance’ for drunk driving, speeding and rash driving. The offenders will be fined in accordance with the law.

Loudspeakers and firecrackers are allowed till midnight, post which action will be taken for the same.

Mumbai Police has already announced traffic diversion and traffic advisory. The Mumbai Traffic Police has 34 divisions across the city. In order to ensure that no accidents take place, the traffic police will have two-three nakabandis in each division and the personnel will be armed with breath analysers.

A senior traffic police authority stated that the northbound stretch from Nariman Point till Girgaum will be closed for vehicular movement from 6 pm on December 31 till 6 am on January 1 and no parking will be allowed there. There will be traffic diversions. There will be traffic curbs at more places across the city.

BEST (Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport) has announced the running of 20 additional buses on New Year’s Eve i.e. the 31st of December, 2019.

Central Railway has announced the running four special trains will be running key stations during the early hours of January 1, 2020. It is said that these special trains will also stop at all the key stations in its route. The announcement was made by Central Railway PRO AK Jain.

Here are the details of the special trains announced by Central Railway:


Kalyan Special will leave Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus Mumbai at 1:30 AM and arrive Kalyan at 3 AM.

Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus Mumbai Special will leave Kalyan at 1:30 AM and arrive CSMT Mumbai at 3 AM.

Panvel Special will leave Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus Mumbai at 1:30 AM and arrive Panvel at 2:50 AM.

Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus Mumbai Special will leave Panvel at 1:30 AM and arrive CSMT Mumbai at 2:50 AM.

Meanwhile, Western Railway has also announced 8-night trains which will run from Churchgate to Virar and vice-versa. The trains on this route will run between midnight and 3:25 AM on January 1, 2020.

They have also requested cab drivers and cab aggregators to be available so that people are able to commute without any hassle.

Another major concern during this time is that of sexual harassment at crowded places such as Gateway of India, Marine Drive, Girgaum Chowpatty, Juhu Chowpatty, Gorai and Madh Island. To tackle the same city police’s anti-eve-teasing squads will be keeping a strict eye in these areas. The police will also be using technology to best use to keep a tab on what is happening around the city. They will be monitoring situation in the city through 4,700 CCTV camera and use three drone cameras for surveillance and monitor.
