What is the case?

Meera Tower, Oshiwara is in the news for all the wrong reasons. Mumbai’s Crime Branch Unit no 9 got a tip about the same. Senior police inspector Mahesh Desai formed a team of women police constable Asha Korke, Police Naik Mahesh Naik, Rajendra Pednekar and Vikas Sawant laid a trap and on Wednesday, they raided the spa where they rescued five women. The five rescued women were sent to a shelter home.

Who was arrested?

Shop manager Rajnish Sharma has been arrested along with ₹4,650. A complaint has been filed against the owners under PITA (Immoral Traffic Prevention Act) act. Sharma was sent to police custody for three days. However, the shop owner Rohit Ranjan is on the run, said senior police inspector Subhash Khanvilkar.

Not happening for the first time

On January 9, 2014, police had seized blue films worth ₹2 lakh from former BEST’s general manager O P Gupta’s flat which is also in Mira Tower’s C wing, 15th floor. However, it was being said that Gupta had rented the flat to a person name Mukherjee.

While on June 2, 2014, police had busted the sex racket going on in Mumbai’s former police commissioner Dr Satyapal Singh.
