On Friday, December 4, the Raigad Police dropped the charges that indicated that Republic TV Chief Arnab Goswami conspired to drive Anvay Naik to suicide back in April 2018.

Back in 2018, Anvay Naik, who was found dead at the first floor of his farmhouse at Kavir Village in Alibaug had left an alleged suicide note accusing Arnab Goswami. However, the case was closed and was only reopened after Naik’s daughter met the DIG and produced more evidence. This led to the DIG initiating an enquiry against police inspector Suresh Warade, who had handled the case, for closing it ‘without investigating thoroughly’.

As per reports, Goswami has also sought an interim order to restrain Alibaug police from issuing a charge sheet in the case and to transfer the investigation to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) or some other independent agency beyond the purview of Maharashtra government.

Meanwhile, earlier this week, Anil Deshmukh, Maharashtra Home Minister had stated that the Police would be soon filing a “strong charge sheet” with regards to the case.

On the other hand, Ghanshyam Singh, Republic Media Network's Assistant Vice President walked out of Taloja jail on Sunday, December 6, a day after being granted bail by a Mumbai court in the TRP case. Moreover, the Maharashtra State Human Rights Commission (MSHRC) had earlier asked Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh to appear before it at 11 am on November 27. This was in connection with a complaint filed by advocate Aditya Mishra on the arrest of Ghanshyam Singh in the TRP scam probe in Mumbai.
