A viral social media video has sparked concern in Mumbai after a young woman allegedly received obscene messages from a Rapido bike taxi rider following her ride. According to the video and screenshots shared online, the rider sent texts including, “Your figure is very sxy”* to the woman’s phone after the trip.
The woman’s friend, who posted the clip, claimed that the rider’s details — identified on Truecaller as Ravi Singh, reportedly based in the Malad area of Mumbai — were visible after the messages began.
The friend also raised concerns about the response from both the Mumbai Police helpline and Rapido. He said attempts to seek help by dialing the police emergency number did not yield any response, and that Rapido initially did not take immediate action when the complaint was filed.
After the issue gained traction online, Rapido issued a statement saying it had taken the matter seriously, acted promptly, and permanently banned the rider from the platform. The company also said it would work to improve safety systems to prevent similar incidents in future.
The episode has reignited debates on women’s safety and ride-hailing services in the city, and raised questions about the effectiveness of police helpline numbers and rapid response mechanisms when such complaints are reported.
The woman’s friend shared that Instagram has taken down the video and restricted him from posting further content. He also mentioned that they are close to getting justice in the matter. He thanked everyone who spoke on this matter and helped him in raising voice.
