In a startling revelation, cybercriminals in Mumbai have defrauded a retired bank employee of INR 2,36,110.

The victim, who is a 70-year-old retired employee of the Royal Bank of Scotland, was targeted by the criminals who solicited him for his credit card information and sent a fraudulent link to his phone number.

Despite the victim's refusal to provide his credit card details or click on the link, his credit card was used for a large number of unauthorised Amazon Pay transactions. The victim discovered the fraudulent activity only after his phone turned back on, following a hanging incident and a battery outage.

It is noteworthy that the victim subscribed to a music playing service. He had declined the criminals' offer to repay him for the music service's subscription. However, the fraudulent link sent to him caused his phone to hang and the battery to run out, even without being clicked.

Upon discovering the usage of his credit card, the victim reported the matter to his bank and was instructed to contact the police. Borivali MHB Colony police station has registered an offence under the Information and Technology Act and the Indian Criminal Code.
