Across the city, one thing you cannot miss are the posters of missing people. They are everywhere and seldom any person is united with his/her family. Day by day, people including minors are reported missing.

Between 2011 and September 2018, amongst 82,822 people who went missing, 7,899 including 598 children who are below 15 years of age are still to be found. These 598 minors include 49 boys and 46 girls aged below 10. Mumbai police provided this information in response to a Right to Information (RTI) query.

Missing people include 3,629 men and 4,270 women and this year, 3,473 cases were filed. According to the data, most complaints about women are in the age group of 16-25 (2,224), while complaints about men are in the age group of 26-40 (1,126).

According to senior police officials, girls and boys who leave home generally because of harassment at home, love affairs, desire to work in the film industry, and desire to earn fast and easy money.
