A nine-year-old girl was rescued in Mumbai who was allegedly forced to do domestic work. On Thursday, September 30, a police official said they had arrested a businessman who had brought the minor. She was brought to work at his house from Bihar.

Two months ago, the accused and his mother had got the girl from Muzaffarpur in Bihar to do the domestic work, said a police officer.

The official further added that they had received a video in which a girl was seen cleaning the staircase. She was seen removing garbage from the man's two-storey house. The house is located at Netaji Nagar in Santacruz.

While addressing the media, Inspector Manjoj Shinde from Vakola police station said they were shocked to see the video since a 9-year old girl was seen working for a family consisting of six people.

The official said that the accused confirmed that he brought the girl from Bihar to his place to do domestic work.

However, the accused said that the girl's mother had agreed to send her daughter and willingly handed them the girl since her father is an alcoholic and would beat her up.

After the girl was rescued on Wednesday, September 29, they took her to St. Catherine children's home in Andheri. He further added that they would send a special team to Bihar to take her back to her family.

The accused's mother is still wanted while the businessman was arrested under relevant sections of the Child Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act.
