Dana Bunder - A major fire broke out on Monday evening at the slums located between the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus and Masjid Bunder railway stations.
The incident took place at the LLC compound in the Dana Bunder area of South Mumbai. Ironically, it was a manjha (kite thread) which got entangled in the overhead wires and caused the explosion. The fire escalated to level III.
12 fire engines and 6 water tanks were rushed to the spot. Six kids were badly injured in the accident and were rushed to JJ Hospital. One of them identified as Ramjan Sheikh (13) has suffered 70 per cent burns and is reportedly in a critical condition. The other inured kids were - Salman Khan (12), Jirro (12), Rehman Shaikh (10), Vinayak (6), Sameer (7). The other children have sustained between 10 to 20 per cent burns. Railway officials said that services on tracks three and four have been suspended for the time being. The power supply to tracks 7 and 8, used by fast trains going towards and from CST, was switched off for a while, confirmed Central Railway’s chief spokesperson Narendra Patil. All the trains were diverted to slow line, owing to the peak hour rush.
