In connection with the smuggling of 7.5 kg gold in an operation at the Mumbai airport, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) arrested six people on Saturday. The seized gold is valued at four and a half crore rupees and an employee of the airline is also among the accused.


The DRI officials had received information that the passenger from Dubai was carrying a large amount of gold and that the airline staff would help him smuggle it. Based on that information, when Umar Sheikh, who was working in the security department of the airline, was checked, 1700 grams of gold was found in his shoes. When questioned, it was hidden under the seat by a passenger. Sheikh was asked to take them out of the airport. Based on that information, it was found that the passenger sitting on that seat was Jameer Tambe. He has been detained by DRI officials.

The name of Yasir Dafedar is revealed from Sheikh's interrogation and he was in touch with Sheikh. Sheikh was going to get INR 50,000 to get the gold out of the plane. After that he was also detained. Sheikh was also asked to accept gold from Mohit Lotwani, another passenger who had come from Phuket in this matter. DRI also seized 1700 grams of gold brought by that passenger. The DRI also arrested father-son duo, Amar Lal and Kishore Kumar Lal, who helped the accused in melting the gold. The rest of the gold was seized from them by the DRI. In this case, a total of seven and a half kilos of gold has been seized and its value is INR4.5 lakh. Apart from this, INR 3.5 lakh have also been seized in this case.
