Maharashtra government appoints Sanjay Barve as Mumbai Police Commissioner

With the retirement of Maharashtra Director General of Police (DGP) Datta Padsalgikar on Thursday, the current Mumbai Police Commissioner Subodh Jaiswal was promoted on the same post. Jaiswal is a 1985 batch IPS officer. 

As this happened, DGP for Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) and 1987 batch IPS officer, Sanjay Barve was appointed as the Mumbai Police Commissioner. 

The newly appointed Mumbai Police Commissioner Sanjay Barve’s image is said to be honest and that of a clean police officer. From Maharashtra ATS to several important posts in Mumbai, Barve has established himself as an honest officer. 

Earlier, Barve was promoted as Anti-Corruption Bureau Chief after Maharashtra government noted his work. Barve has been appointed at this post for six months and will retire on August 30, 2019.

Padsalgikar’s tenure as Maharashtra DGP was supposed to end on August 31, 2018. However, the 1982 batch IPS officer was given an extension for six months in two parts.
