In Mumbai, Kandivali’s, Samata Nagar police made use of the close circuit television (CCTV) cameras that are put throughout half the island city to track down and nab three women who are claimed to have stolen a golden mangalsutra of a traveller of a BEST bus from her purse, reported the Hindustan Times.

The authorities had to go through tapes of more than 150 CCTV cameras that ranged from Ghatkopar to Kandivali, from Kandivali to Bhandup through Powai to catch the three women who were all in their early fifties.

The account stated that the police elucidated how, Rohini Chandrakant Akhade, the 38-year-old victim, a homemaker, was journeying from Ghatkopar to Kandivali by means of a BEST bus, last week. It was only when she got off at the Kandivali depot that she realized that not only was the zip of her purse open, but her mangalsutra made of gold was also missing.

She then went to the police station and registered a complaint against the unnamed thief. The police began the investigation by going through the CCTV cameras footage which is put along the route of the bus. The narrative mentioned that a senior police inspector of the police station, Anandrao Hanke, elaborated on how at the Thakur complex he saw three women getting off the bus and abording a rickshaw. Since they looked dubious, the authorities tracked the rickshaw’s journey, by looking at CCTV cameras recording and saw it going in the direction of Powai. The authorities trailed the driver who mentioned that he dropped the woman off at Bhandup. The officer then added how the team got out CCTV recordings of the vicinity and witnessed them get into a chawl.

With the grab of the CCTV, they showed it to the locals and managed to get to the homes of one of the accused named Anusuya Gaikwad who is 55 years old. She then named her accomplices, Marubai Gaikwad (50) and Baby Gaikwad (52). They were then arrested and booked under section 379 of the Indian Penal Code.
