A tragic accident in Thane on Tuesday morning claimed the life of an 18-year-old student from Dombivli, who fell from a local train while on his way to appear for his Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) board exam.

The incident occurred between Mumbra and Kalwa stations during the morning rush, when Mumbai’s suburban trains are heavily crowded with commuters and students. The student, identified as Soham Sachin Kathare, was reportedly traveling alone to reach his exam center at Kalwa. Around 9:15 am, he was found lying near the railway tracks in a critical condition. Despite being rushed to a nearby hospital, he was pronounced dead at 10:30 am, before he could sit for his exam.

The Government Railway Police (GRP) have registered the case as an accidental death and launched an investigation into the circumstances that led to the fall. Officials are reviewing CCTV footage and gathering eyewitness accounts to determine whether overcrowding, a misstep, or other factors contributed to the incident.

Parents, commuters, and civic authorities have highlighted the urgent need for stricter safety measures and better crowd management on trains to prevent similar accidents in the future.
