The custom officers at Mumbai airport arrested two foreigners with Uganda passports for smuggling nearly four kilograms of heroin worth ₹20 crores in the city earlier this week.
According to reports, two Ugandan nationals including a woman and her daughter arrested for possessing 3.90 kg heroin worth ₹20 crores at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) in Mumbai on Monday, November 22, said the customs department.
The accused women are a mother-daughter duo, who brought the contraband from Sudan and was supposed to deliver it to a person in Mumbai, the probe has revealed. The two bags containing narcotics contraband were given to them by a racket member identified as one Saas Salikari.
The accused have been identified as Kyangera Fatuma (45), and Mansimbe Zyanah (27) travelled from Juba (Sudan) to Dubai and then from Dubai to Mumbai.
A case was registered against them under the Narcotics Prevention Act. Later, on Tuesday, November 23, they were sent to judicial custody added the customs department.
The customs officials intercepted the women after receiving a tip-off. They scanned their items of baggage and recovered 3.91 kg of heroin worth around ₹20 crores.
Now, customs officials are trying to get details of the person who was supposed to take the delivery of the consignment in Mumbai.
