In a swift move, the Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force has detained a suspected gangster, Sandeep Sahu, on Thursday morning, for allegedly making threatening calls to film director Mahesh Bhatt.

Bhatt had received a ransom call on 26 February asking for Rs. 50,00,000 after which he lodged a police complaint with the Juhu police station on Wednesday evening. The caller threatened to kill Bhatt's daughter actor Alia Bhatt if Mahesh Bhatt failed to pay up the money Rs. 50,00,000.

Mahesh Bhatt claimed he was receiving threatening calls and messages for a long time, but he had been dismissing them as prank calls. But when he realized that he was receiving calls from an 'infamous gangster of Uttar Pradesh', he filed a police complaint. “We have registered the complaint of ransom and the crime branch is investigating the case for further details,” said Ashok Dudhe, Mumbai police spokesperson.

Sahu has been identified by the police as a 'notorious gangster' and the Mumbai police are now on the way to Uttar Pradesh for further investigations, sources say.
