On May 29, during an argument with airline executives over charges of carrying excess luggage at the Mumbai airport, a woman passenger was arrested after she claimed that she had a bomb in her bag. Ruchi Deepak Sharma, who was to board a Spicejet flight to Kolkata, gave two of her bags to check in to airline staff Saurabh Labde, according to personnel of Sahar police station.

Domestic passengers are allowed to check in one bag not weighing more than 15 kilograms as per the rules but Sharma was carrying bags weighing 22.05 kilograms. Upon asking to pay charges for excess luggage, she started arguing with the staffer. After Sharma said that she had a bomb, senior airline officials and CISF guards were called in. However, after checking her bags, no objectionable items were found.
