From an affluent area of Mumbai’s Dadar, a 40-year-old woman is said to have been forced by her partner to undergo abortion eight times, in order to fulfil his wish of having a son, stated a report by News18.com. It is said that she has filed a complaint in this regard with the police.

The father, a retired judge married his daughter in 2007 to what he saw to be an educated and eminent family. The report states that the victim’s husband and mother-in-law are lawyers, whilst her sister-in-law is a doctor.

Few years into the marriage, the husband is claimed to have physically abused the victim and went on a frenzy that he yearned for a son who would not just defend his family, but also the property. The report alleges that in light of this, she was made to go through abortion eight times abroad.

Additionally, based on the report, in 2009 she gave birth to a girl. When she became pregnant again in 2011, she was taken to the doctor by her husband who compelled her to have an abortion, claiming that she didn’t want a baby. Her woes only grew, with her husband commencing treatment for a child in the city.

The report further elucidates that the husband took her to Bangkok to undergo a pre-implantation genetic diagnosis. She is claimed to endure treatment and surgery for the examination of the embryo’s sex before conception. For the said treatment, it is claimed that she received over 1,500 hormonal and steroid injections.

It is stated that the police are further investigating the matter.
