The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has appointed marshals across Mumbai and its suburbs to ensure that coronavirus protocol is followed by people in Mumbai.

Moreover, the state government has also urged the citizens to wear face masks and follow social distancing norms.

At a time when the city is dealing with the second wave of coronavirus, a shameful act by a lady, who was seen beating a woman marshal has been surfacing on the internet.

A woman marshal, identified as Ashiwini Chawan, age 35 was on COVID-19 duties when this incident took place. She was beaten by a woman passenger at Charkop Link Road. Marshal was asking the lady to wear a face mask as the government has imposed INR 200 fine for not wearing the mask in public places. When the marshal tried to stop the lady, she grabbed her and started beating and abusing her.

Many people passing by tried to stop the lady but without realising her fault, she continued to do the cruel act and also passed the buck on the marshal by accusing her of misbehaving.

To step up the vigil in the wake of a pandemic that affected Mumbai the worst among all Indian cities, the BMC appointed marshals, who have been deployed all across the city and its suburbs. Even the educated class of Mumbai who’s aware of the dangers of the pandemic often behaves in a threatening and abusive manner.

Netizens have also urged to take strict action against such people who misbehave with the frontline workers.

The BMC officials said collecting fines from citizens isn't their aim but they aren't happy either with what they are seeing on ground zero. As per the guidelines, wearing face masks is essential and those flouting the norms have to pay a fine of INR 200. This has been aimed to create mass awareness about the health risk that the virus poses.
