In the wake of rising coronavirus cases, the Thackeray government has decided to issue fresh guidelines for the people travelling to the Konkan region for Shimga festival later this month.

According to the Ratnagiri District Collector Laxminarayan Mishra, COVID-19 testing has been made mandatory for those travelling to their villages in Konkan to celebrate the festival of Holi in March. People who have a negative test report will be the only ones allowed to enter their respective villages.

For this, the administration will set up check posts at the district boundary. Orders in this regard will be issued in the next two to three days. After that, the process of testing the citizens going to Konkan will start, informed Laxminarayan Mishra.

People were banned from entering Konkan last year due to the outbreak of the virus. As a result, many migrants could not go to their village to celebrate the festival with their families. Gapanati and Holi are considered to be the two biggest festivals in Konkan.

A large number of people from the city and across Maharashtra visit their village. This year too, there is a possibility of a similar crowd in Konkan during Holi. Therefore, appropriate precautions are being taken by the administration to curb the spread of COVID-19.

On the occasion of Mahashivratri, the state government came out with guidelines for the celebration. It also stated that all religious festivals are being celebrated simply since last year in accordance with COVID-related protocols.
