Kashish Mumbai Queer Film Festival kick starts from 24 May

The eight edition of the annual Kashish Mumbai International Queer Film Festival will start from 24 May - 28 May. The festival addresses a growing need to tell LGBTQI (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer or Questioning, and Intersex) stories and link the community with the city.

The movies will be screened at Liberty Cinema, Marine Lines, and Alliance Francaise, New Marine Lines. The festival has managed to crowdsource Rs 3 lakh. The organisers have received 1,200 film submissions out of which 147 films will be screened. This year the cash reward for film-makers have been increased up to Rs 2.25 lakh. Movies from around 45 countries will be screened at the event. The entry in the film festival is free. The festival will kick start with Signature Move.

The American Fim Signature Move is directed by Jennifer Reeder and co-written and produced by Fawzia Mirza. This is the story of a thirty-something Pakistani lesbian woman Zaynab (Fawzia Mirza) who falls for a bold and bright Mexican woman. Zaynab is taking care of her TV obsessed mother Parveen (Shabana Azmi). She searches for her identity in love, life and her inclination towards wrestling.

Shridhar Rangayan, Festival director is an Indian Filmmaker who has made films on queer subjects. His films The Pink Mirror and Yours Emotionally have been considered groundbreaking. 

Rangayan is the founder of the Kashish Mumbai Queer Film Festival.
