What’s the story?

IIT Bombay is gearing up to host the 47th edition of Mood Indigo, its annual cultural festival, from December 22 to 25, 2017.

Asia’s largest cultural festival saw a footfall of 1,39,000 students last year and this year is not going to be any different but we just expect it to be bigger and better.

History of MoodI

Started in 1971 by a group of four students on a budget of just ₹5000, MoodI, as it is affectionately called, has grown to become Asia’s largest cultural festival.

MoodI’s social cause

In its attempt to give back to the society, Mood Indigo takes up a social cause every year. This year, the fest is championing the expansion of stem-cell donor registry through its initiative ‘Swab to Save’.

Theme for 2017

Having showcased the indomitable spirit of Aamchi Mumbai last year, the 2017 edition is slated to be a celebration of celebrations itself. With the theme, La Fête Carnaval, the festival is going to bring in elements from carnivals all around the world to provide a near-magical experience for the senses.

MoodI Website

The use of beautiful motifs from the world of carnivals in the official Mood Indigo website is sure to please the aesthetic eye of visitors. Another standout feature of this website is the predominant usage of the red-and-white colour scheme that is not only associated with carnivals but also evokes images of Santa Claus and the tasty candy canes. Illusion Fest

This year will also mark the debut of the Illusion Fest, where magicians and illusionists from all around the world will converge at the Powai campus to enthrall the audience.

Why should you visit?

Music, art, literature, comedy, and much more! Spread across four days, the festival has multiple events for visitors. Expect heavyweights like Rahul Kaushik - owner of the Facebook page, The Melting Words and Neeta Lulla, the reigning queen of India’s fashion industry. Eloquence, Mood Indigo’s literary fest has undergone extensive rebranding and returned with a bang.

Having featured notable personalities like Shashi Tharoor, Ramesh Sippy, Devendra Fadnavis, and Arnab Goswami in the past, this year too they have managed to bring in various bigwigs and luminaries from various luminaries.

The fest gives you a rare opportunity to witness, on the first day of the event itself, a panel consisting Narayana Murthy, co-founder of Infosys, and P. Chidambaram, a Member of the Rajya Sabha and former Finance Minister of India. The panel shall be moderated by Faye D’Souza, the executive editor of Mirror Now. For this event, the fest has been inviting questions from the public, who can post it on Twitter with #AskThePanel, and the best ones shall be asked to the members of the panel.
