Mission Kashmir: An underrated movie that you should watch on Netflix today

Another day brings to another underrated movie on the Netflix platform. Our pick of the day today is Mission Kashmir.

Hrithik Roshan made a spectacular debut with the movie Kaho Na Pyaar Hai, which went on the smash the box office, pick as many awards as it was possible for a film at that time. What’s more is that Hrithik also took up the coveted title of “Star of the Millennium”. Mission Kashmir was his next release which released on October 21, 2000. It had a big clash with Shahrukh Khan starrer Mohabatein.

Perhaps it was the clash or the unconventional story line that the movie did not manage to shine on as much as it needed to. The songs did manage to make a mark but why we feel that the movie deserves to be seen now is because it talks about Kashmir the way no other movie had done before this.

Made under the banner of Vidhu Vinod Chopra, the movie also starrer Priety Zinta, Sanjay Dutt, Jackie Shriff and Sonali Kulkarni.

It is the idea behind making a movie like Mission Kashmir is the most important factor to watch it. Unlike most movies, this one shows all the sides that are there to talk about Kashmir and also showcases how futile is the quest for revenge. It is a well researched movie which has been superbly directed and its authenticity has remained with me till date.

Hritik Roshan and Preity Zinta manage to leave a strong impact in the movie but even greater impact in the movie is left by Jackie Shroff. Shroff plays a role of terrorist whose job is to malign young gullible kids on to the path of terrorism. He looks absolutely menacing and enigmatic in this role. Wish we would have got to see more of him in the movie. Another plus for the movie is songs that are worth a hear even 20 years later. Do watch the movie and let us know how it was. Also if there are any other under-rated movies that we should include in our series or view during this time, do let us know about the same.
