In 2019, director Shubham Singh made a film which addressed several issues, one of the most important being the discrimination of the people from North East India. Titled 'Penalty,' the film was layered with many social issues, where a North-east Indian football player is seen fighting against the preset societal norms, only to fulfill his dreams, where he aims is to completely change his life for the better days.

The film starred popular names like Kay Kay Menon, Manjot Singh, Shashank Arora, Lukram Smil, Bijou Thaangjam, Mohit Nain, and many others.

Though the film did not make the expected collection at the box office, it impressed a section of audience who would relate to the issues addressed. After a year now, Penalty is streaming on Netflix from July 5, 2020.

Talking about the film, one of the actors, Mohit Nain said, "It was my first Hindi film where I played an important role and it was a great experience with the entire team. My character in Penalty had a negative shade and so it was quite challenging. Moreover, sharing the screen with KK Menon and other talented co-actors helped me a learn lot. Since the film is on football, we got a chance to bond with each other and play a lot of matches which is an experience I cherish. I believe the audience should watch this film as it is not only entertaining but also brings forth many issues which we deal on an everyday basis. It talks about the people from North East India who are usually neglected and made fun of, regularly, and that's one of the important aspects of the film. I'm happy that Netflix gave the film a chance on the platform and I hope it connects with the audience.

Penalty is written by Tasha Bhambra, Akhilesh Choudhary, Sparsh Khetarpal and Shubham Singh.
