On the basis of information given by MLA Hemant Takle in the legislative assembly, nearly nine lakh girls in the state do not pursue secondary education due to child labour. He added that there are 49 lakh girls aged between 15 to 19 in the state. Out of these, 18.04 per cent that is 9 lakh girls work in different forms of child labor and these numbers are high in rural areas.

In the districts of Nandurbar, Gadchiroli, Jalna, and Hingoli, there are 31 to 39 per cent girls who are child labourers and in Thane, Nashik, Pune, Ahmednagar, Jalgaon, there are 30 per cent girls who are into child labour. These numbers are high in an unorganised sector where girls are pulled into child labour after completing primary education.

MLA Hemant Takle has demanded that government should take serious action against this practice. He added that the state should give a scholarship in secondary education and cycle to attract girl students.
