State Education Minister Ashish Shelar recently said that Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE) will announce an extension for the FYJC 2019/20 admissions.
With the extension, students belonging to the Maratha community, who filled their forms under Open category will be able to re-apply under Special Backward Class (SBC) and Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) quota.

Currently, the government has allowed 16 per cent reservation for SBC students whereas 10 per cent for EWS students. However, after Bombay High Court declared Maratha reservation valid, the state government has asked the institutions to keep the reservation to 12 per cent.
Accordingly, Shelar has stated that the students can submit the caste certificate later and have been provided with a three-month extension to produce the certificate. Currently, the students can apply with a temporary certificate signed by their parents.
