In an attempt to make learning more engaging and effective, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC)-run schools have introduced a new approach that combines gaming and artificial intelligence (AI). This initiative aims to help SSC students better understand subjects, particularly mathematics and science.

The main objective is to use AI, games, and animated content to make learning more interactive and fun. According to reports, the plan is to acquire gamified e-content specifically designed for civic schools. This will transform the science and mathematics curriculum into enjoyable gaming modules.

As part of this initiative, BMC has begun the process of acquiring an AI application that will be installed on tablets given to 10th grade students. This programme is expected to benefit approximately 18,500 students, with each application costing around INR 800.

Currently, there are challenges that students in municipal schools face when it comes to mathematics and science. These subjects have often been a hurdle for students, affecting their overall academic performance.

Interestingly, BMC has previously introduced virtual classrooms as part of its efforts to modernise education. It should be noted that this year's SSC scores were lower than last year at civic schools.

In the March 2023 exam, the success rate of civic schools was 84.77%, with 14,529 out of 17,140 students passing. This is a significant drop from the impressive 97.10% success rate achieved in March 2022.

In addition to this, BMC has launched a programme aimed at helping students improve their skills this year. A trial project was initiated at Nana Jagannath Shankar Sheth School on Grant Road, with plans for expansion to 196 schools. BMC has also introduced a curriculum that allows students to learn about astronomy in the classroom.
