SHARES

The students had challenged the admission procedure in the High Court after the Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) disqualified the students of backward class for the admission process. Accordingly, on Wednesday, the court gave relief to the students by giving a stay order on MPSC's admission process.

For how long is the stay

The stay will continue until the next hearing which is scheduled on February 1. The court has ordered the state government to give a detailed reply to this matter before the next hearing.

Whose petition was it?

Ajay Munde, a student, has filed a petition in the High Court against disqualifying students who belong to the backward class.

Contempt of court?

During the hearing, the court rapped the state government asking that if a student, on the basis of his merit, is filing an application in an open category, then why the protest? The bench added that prior to this hearing, the HC has given the order to accept applications in an open category on the basis of merit, why is the government not following the orders? The bench further said that not following orders is a contempt of court.
