In recent developments, the number of examination centres for the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) board examinations in Mumbai will be doubled this year.

According to sources, this decision has been taken to ensure that every student gets an examination centre near his home in the city.

Moreover, Samyam Bhardwaj, Controller of Examinations of the Board, said that the board is looking for a large number of examination centres with all facilities. In areas where there is severe summer in the months of May-June, only schools with adequate facilities with regards to protection from the sun will have examination centres. The aim is to ensure that the students do not suffer any inconvenience due to hot weather during the three hours of the examinations.

Meanwhile, on the 10th day after the commencement of the examination, the process of checking the papers will start, the date for which happens to be May 14. Bhardwaj further added that the duration of the examinations has been decided after much deliberation.

However, in view of the pandemic, schools have been instructed to take special care of students. The CBSE is preparing the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for board examinations in the post coronavirus situation. In addition, the number of candidates in each class is being reduced so that the rules of social distancing can be maintained in the examination centres.

On the other hand, CBSE has informed that if a student fails in any one of the three elective subjects, Science, Mathematics and Social Science, then the failed subject will be replaced by the 'Skill Subject (offered as a 6th additional subject).
