In recent developments, on Thursday, June 17, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) submitted before the Supreme Court its evaluation criteria for giving out grades for Class 12 examinations.

Moreover, earlier on June 3, the court had given the board two weeks’ time to place an evaluation formula for the students of Class 12. According to reports, the board had informed the apex court that the results of Class 12 will be decided on the basis of performance in Class 10, Class 11 as well as Class 12. The results for the same will be declared by July 31.

Meanwhile, while 30 per cent weightage will be given to students' performance in Class 10 and 11, their class 12 performance will carry a weightage of 40 per cent. For Class 12, marks obtained in unit, term and practical examinations will be taken into account.

On the other hand, earlier on June 1, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that the Class 12 board examinations have been cancelled in view of the COVID-19 pandemic. Moreover, he informed that the decision has been taken keeping in mind the interests of the students due to the uncertain situation created due to the second wave of the coronavirus and the surge in COVID-19 cases.

The Class 12 examinations were touted to take place in the months of May-June earlier. They were postponed due to the second wave of the coronavirus. On the other hand, the CBSE had cancelled the Class 10 board examinations in the past and informed the students about an alternative marking policy.
