In a circular dated April 22, the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) clarified that the board has only advised all the affiliated schools to encourage parents of pupils to get their children between 15 and 18 vaccinated against COVID-19 at the earliest, highlighted reports.

According to accounts, this comes in the aftermath of Maharashtra school education minister Varsha Gaikwad approaching the CISCE and the union education minister about a mandate by the board which made inoculation mandatory for those appearing for exams.

Following this, the CISCE released a circular that clarified how its earlier circular was misinterpreted.

It has been reported that in the new circular, the body elaborates on how the CISCE reaffirms that the earlier circular was just an advisory to affiliated schools. It added that it wasn’t compulsory nor a pre-condition for candidates appearing for the ICSE and ISC which is the Class 10 and 12 exams respectively this year.

Gaikwad took to Twitter, to share a copy of the CISCE circular, her tweet read, “I thank the CISCE for their prompt clarification. Hope this assuages the concerns of students and parents. I wish all the students all the very best for the exams.”

Based on narratives, vaccine certificates aren’t mandatory for attendance in higher education institutes in Maharashtra, which was mentioned by Uday Samant, the state minister for higher and technical education. However, no such clarification for schools has been issued.
