Maharashtra higher education minister Uday Samant, took to Twitter to elaborate on how college and university students who are not fully vaccinated against COVID-19 will be permitted to attend classes. 

With many universities choosing for offline exams, higher and technical education department has done way with the regulation. Samant's tweet read, "Earlier, it was mandatory to take two covid vaccines for attendance at university and college. Now this condition has been waived and now all students can attend university and college ....."

This announcement comes in the aftermath of the state health department lifting the double vaccination mandate. The Maharashtra cabinet had cleared the proposal to withdraw the Disaster Management and Epidemic Act for COVID-19 management in the state.

With this, there is no longer any requirement for being fully vaccinated to travel in public transport and in public places like malls, theatres. This signifies that there will no restrictions on cinema halls, restaurants, bars, sports complexes and shopping complexes.

Additionally, the mask mandate has also been relaxed, with this it is no longer mandatory to wear masks, but ii is now a voluntary concept. However, citizens have been encouraged to wear the masks in public places. Especially with speculations of the XE variant of coronavirus being reported in Mumbai which was later refuted by the Centre and state public health minister, Rajesh Tope
