In a reliving news for Mumbaikars, double vaccination certificate is no longer required for commuting by the Mumbai local trains from April 2. This development comes as the Maharashtra government on Thursday evening, March 31, announced to lift all COVID-19 restrictions.
On the other hand, Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope, has strongly recommend citizens to get themselves fully vaccinated for their own safety.
Mumbai locals were thrown open for those who were fully vaccinated in August 2021, months after the vaccination drive that begun in January 2021.
To those unversed, for the first time ever, Mumbai’s lifeline, local trains were shut down for the tenure of nearly a year for the general public, which means only essential workers were allowed to commute.
Additionally, the state government has made wearing of masks voluntary but advised people to continue wearing it for citizens' benefits.

Meanwhile, it seems that this decision has not gone well with the experts proclaim that going mask-free in Mumbai so soon will be a bad decision. With overcrowded local trains and other modes of transportation, especially when we haven't achieved 100 per cent vaccination, it might prove to be poor choice.
It is a known fact that despite mask were always mandatory, not many followed the regulation strictly. Similarly, the proof of double vaccination and physical distancing rules had also gone for a toss in the Mumbai local.
Therefore, arguing against government, experts stated that what would happen if the government decides to completely lift the rules. There will be chaos among people.
The decision comes two years after the restrictions under the Epidemic Act were first imposed in 2019.
On the contrary, the IIT-Kanpur's study has warned of the fourth wave in June 2022.
