The Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) announced today that it will postpone ICSE Class X and ISC Class XII exams given the worsening situation with the coronavirus pandemic across the country.
The Class X examinations were originally scheduled to be held between May 4 and June 7, 2021. Meanwhile, ISC Class XII exams were to take place between April 8 and June 18, 2021. The board will meet in June to decide whether it can conduct exams for this academic year.
A statement issued by the CISCE said, “In the light of the nationwide surge in Covid 19 cases, the CISCE has decided to defer the ICSE (Class X) and ISC (Class XII) board examinations scheduled to be held from May 4, 2021.”
“The Covid situation will be closely monitored and the deferment of the ICSE & ISC 2021 Examinations will be reviewed and a final decision on the conduct of the board examinations will be taken by the 1st week of June 2021,” it added.

This offers some breathing room for students of ICSE and ISC who have been petitioning for the cancellation of board exams.
The CISCE added that Class XII ISC exams will be postponed, ICSE Class X students will be given the option to either appear for an offline examination along with Class XII students or not write the examination at all.

This comes a few days after the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) cancelled Class X board examinations, adding that grading will be done on an “objective criterion” decided by the board. Students who are not satisfied with the marks allocated to them will have the option to write the exam when the conditions are more favourable.
However, the board has said that a decision on CBSE Class XII exams will be reviewed on June 1, 2021, so there’s no definitive decision as of yet. The board added that it will provide a notice of at least 15 days before the resumption of exams for Class XII students.
