With students and parents across the country protesting for the cancellations of board examinations, on Wednesday, April 14, the Education Ministry, after consultation with Prime Minister Narendra Modi has decided to postpone the CBSE class 12 board examinations.

According to reports, the ministry will review the situation on June 1 to decide fresh dates. In addition, the ministry has cancelled the class 10 board examinations.

Earlier, lakhs of CBSE students across the country had signed a petition on change.org urging the CBSE to cancel the upcoming board examinations due to the pandemic and the rising number of coronavirus cases. Moreover, several parents have also appealing to the CBSE to conduct the board examinations 2021 in online mode. “The entire syllabus, including practicals were held online. Why boards are adamant on conducting the exams in paper and paper mode”, asked many, while talking to news agencies.

On the other hand, the Maharashtra government had earlier postponed the state board examinations of Classes 10 and 12, which were scheduled to be held this month, in view of the rising number of COVID-19 cases. The government had earlier cancelled tests for Classes 1 to 8. Moreover, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has instructed the education department to make SOPs in the last week of May and in June in order to safeguard the students from the COVID-19 pandemic.
