On Monday, Minister of Higher Education and Technical Education, Uday Samant explicated that whilst the academic year would commence November 1 onwards, physical classes wouldn’t, thus, online classes would continue to be the norm, highlighted reports.

The minister added that the resolution to begin physical classes will be undertaken eventually in accordance with the developing coronavirus condition at that period. Consultations will be undertaken along with collectors who are also spearheading the disaster management committees in their respective districts.

Samant, in his conversation with the PTI, elaborated that currently, undertaking the risk of commencing offline classes is a big challenge. He elaborated that it needs to be considered that not all the eligible beneficiaries have been given the first dose of the coronavirus vaccine. Only 17%-18% have received their second dose. If all students were fully vaccinated, they could have thought about commencing in-person classes, he mentioned.

According to reports, due to the pandemic, college students in the state haven’t attained practical training or have been on campus to attend practical sessions. Considering this, the minister said that if a case is brought to light that companies aren’t giving jobs to students on the above-mentioned grounds, FIRs will be filed against them.

The reopening of educational institutions in Maharashtra has been delayed several times since the advent of the pandemic.
